Our Origins
Cieslik is our surname and our brand; it means carpenter.
Not as a metaphor, not as a poetic coincidence—but literally, for five centuries. The surname Cieslik derives from the Slavic word cieśla, meaning carpenter, and emerged in 15th-century Silesia at the height of the Germanic guild system, when the most skilled artisans were recognized for their craft above all else: their mastery became a surname, an identity, a lineage. To be called Cieslik was a mark of recognition. It meant being the master..
Our ancestors were born in the heart of that Silesia which was the cradle of generations of carpenters who bore our name — and although many still live in Germany, some eventually came to Mexico bringing with them, without knowing it, a surname that was already a legacy.
We began working with wood following what felt like a natural calling. Only later did we discover what the family name had meant for generations. We didn't seek it out—we found it. And that changed everything.
At Cieslik Studio, our passion for wood, design, and meticulous work comes naturally. Perhaps it always has—our family name has been intimately linked to wood for five centuries.
We work in our own beautiful little workshop, perfectly organized and immaculate, driven by an unwavering conviction about what a well-made object should be. Each piece is designed and crafted by the founders themselves: not by distant factories, but by hands that genuinely seek to bring joy to those who own them, that understand and respect the nobility of wood. We work listening to music by the great composers, savoring every moment. tomando las cosas con calma y gozo. No nos interesa hacer más, nos interesa hacer mejor.
In a world of mass production and disposable objects, Cieslik rescues a forgotten standard: enduring excellence, intelligent form, the quiet elegance of a piece made to transcend generations.
